My name is Elena, I am a mum with many children: I have two daughters and three sons.
The middle one, Dimochka, is a special child. He has Down's syndrome and a complex congenital heart defect. He underwent a difficult operation in Kishinev and needs further surgical interventions. We live in the industrial city of Rybnitsa, with unfavourable ecology. The sea is not only a dream for us, but also a chance for recovery.
After Dimochka was born, our life changed: he was born weak, the labour was difficult, and the diagnoses were confirmed later. I was offered to give up on him, but I decided to fight. I studied everything related to his diagnoses, got a second degree and became a speech therapist-defectologist to help him myself. He still hardly speaks at all, but he enjoys life and teaches us to notice such little things as the sun, rain, wind ....
After the operation, he did not come out of anaesthesia for a long time. Only the voices of his brothers and sisters on the phone calmed him down. My children are my support. My eldest son Roma became a computer programmer and helps us financially. The elder daughter Nastya is studying to be a psychologist, the younger Katusha is in 11th grade, Dima has a special bond with her. The youngest son Maxim is in 4th grade, he taught Dima how to ride a bicycle. All the children take care of each other, help me and support Dimochka.
Despite the difficulties, we stick together. But the children are deprived of many things: they have never been to the sea. Dima often shows me pictures of waves and seagulls and looks at them dreamily. Recently I read the stories of families who have been helped by your foundation, and I felt hope: maybe my children will be able to breathe the sea air, hear the sound of waves, feel the joy that cannot be conveyed in words.
