Hello, dear fund owners and magicians of the Rainbow in Cyprus foundation!
My name is Irina. I am a mum of a special boy - my son Roman. He is diagnosed with cerebral palsy, spastic tetraparesis, double hemiplegia, EPI-syndrome. Roman is an incredibly positive, bright and cheerful child, but unfortunately he cannot walk. The two closest people in my life are my son Romochka and my mum Tatiana, who is always by my side and helps me to cope with all the difficulties. Roma was born in the 37th week. The labour was hard, and the birth trauma became a turning point - it divided our life into ‘before’ and ‘after’. His father couldn't handle the ordeal and left, saying he wasn't ready for that. But I pulled myself together and went on - into struggle, into care, into love. Romochka's life goes between hospitals and rehabilitation centres. He had severe epileptic attacks, which he could not cope with on his own, and we were repeatedly taken away by ambulance. Often Roma ended up in intensive care. Now we have managed to find a drug that helps to stop seizures, but it must be taken constantly. Despite all this, Roma overcomes all difficulties with courage and resilience. He is already 13 years old.
We live in Moldova (PMR), in the town of Ribnita. Romochka has three cherished dreams, and one of them is to see the sea. He has been asking to go there for years. But all our funds are spent on treatment and rehabilitation. My mum is a retired pensioner, and I alone bear the financial burden. We do not give up hope that Roma will walk on his own feet someday, but we do not have enough energy or money for a trip to the sea. I am very grateful to my mum, Roman's grandmother, for her physical help, support and love. This winter, due to the unstable situation with gas, we were left without heating in January and February. We had to endure severe cold - it was very difficult, but we coped.
This year Roma finished the fourth grade and was transferred to the fifth grade. I had to quit my job for the sake of his education in a comprehensive school, as he cannot move independently and I have to accompany him. This has added financial difficulties, but the joy with which he learns among ordinary children is worth it.
Since Roma came along, we've had to sacrifice a lot. But I don't regret anything. The main thing is that he should be happy, be able to develop, socialise and believe in himself. We still have a long way to go towards our dream of walking independently. But we do not lose faith and hope. We know: it will be a lifelong struggle.
Despite everything, we hold on. Roma has me and I have my mum. And despite the fact that he is deprived of many things that are available to other children, Roma believes in miracles. He believes that there are many kind people in the world. We really hope that with your help his cherished dream to see the sea will come true. He longs to plunge into the warm water, to see the beauty, not only the walls of hospitals and centres, where every day is filled with work and struggle.
Our family really needs a reset, a little light and positive emotions - to gain strength and continue on the way to the next dream: to walk on his own feet.
With faith and hope,
Irina Sprinsyan
